Mission
- RE THINK, RE ACT, RE UNITE
RE THINK
REantwerp is an idea by designer Tim Van Steenbergen, journalist Ruth Goossens, and non-profit organisation GATAM. We love fashion but we are aware of the harmful effects the industry has on the planet and its people. We want to do things differently: more sustainably, timeless, locally anchored, and with more attention to the makers. All of this without compromising on style and quality.
RE ACT
Antwerp is synonymous with avant-garde fashion, and with REantwerp, we want to honour that reputation. Not only in design but also in the way we design.
RE UNITE
We believe in the unifying power of fashion. We work with refugees, and through their craftsmanship and stories, we create limited collections. In return, they receive recognition and a place in our society.
- RE use, RE made, RE duce, RE connect
RE USE
REantwerp aims to be sustainable, which is why we work with leftover fabrics from Belgian designers and labels and use recycled jeans in our collections.
RE MADE
REantwerp wants to bring craftsmanship back to the city. For our employees, we seek jobs within the sector, so that we can reintegrate the craft into our society, keep workshops alive, and allow new initiatives to grow.
RE CONNECT
REantwerp aims to start a dialogue between refugees, creative partners, and consumers. We sell our collection in the workshop so that fashion enthusiasts can meet the makers. Here, you don’t buy an anonymous piece of clothing but a shirt, jacket, or pants with a story.
RE DUCE
In our designs, we look to the future. From the first sketch to creation, we think about reuse. This can mean adjusting oversized to fitted, changing the length, a different finish, or altering the textile. This way, a single piece of clothing gets multiple lives.
